The circulatory system and, in particular, microcirculation is represented by a dense network of vessels (arteries and veins) that mediate the inflow of nutrients and the gas exchanges in the various areas of our body. This transport within the vessels is carried out by the blood flow, which travels from the heart to peripheral areas and then returns from peripheral areas to the lungs where it is re-oxygenated. While the flow toward peripheral areas is activated by the cardiac output combined synergically with the arterial system, the return can encounter some problems due to different anatomical and functional conditions.
