Folic Acid is a water-soluble B vitamin which can be found in fruit, vegetables, legumes and cereals. Once taken, Folic Acid is converted into its active form, 5-MTHF (5-methyltetrahydrofolate), which intervenes in the cell division process, contributes to the growth of maternal tissues during pregnancy and also reduces tiredness and fatigue.
During pregnancy, the supplementary intake of Folic Acid increases maternal folate status. Low maternal folate status is a risk factor for the development of neural tube defects in the foetus. In women of childbearing age, the beneficial effect is obtained with the daily supplementary intake of 400 μg of Folic Acid from at least one month before and up to three months after conception.
Quatrefolic® 5-MTHF (5-methyltetrahydrofolate), which has been chosen for the new formula of Trocà® Maternum Basic, is a form of Folid Acid that does not need to be activated by dihydrofolate reductase, so it is immediately available for cell use, without metabolic transformation.
Iodine is an essential element in nutrition: it makes thyroid hormones, contributes to the normal production of thyroid hormones and to thyroid physiology, and is essential during pregnancy for the formation and growth of various organs and apparatuses. In particular, it contributes to a healthy nervous system and cognitive function.
Take 1 tablet a day, corresponding to 400 μg of Folic Acid and 220 μg of Iodine.
